Astor School was established in 1948, since when it has grown considerably, not merely in size, but also in public esteem. In 2002 it was designated a specialist school and became Astor College for the Arts.  Our success has led to the creation of the Dover Federation for the Arts. Now known as Astor College it is widely recognised in the area as a college which maintains the highest standards in work, behaviour and personal appearance.

The English Department are proud to offer a vibrant and creative curriculum to our students. We embrace a multi-modal approach to our subject, incorporating drama, film, production, theatre and technology to enhance the students’ learning and progression in the three disciplines of Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. Underpinning the work within the department is the belief that English is vital for all forms of communication and is fundamental to learning in all curriculum areas and the wider world.

At Key Stage 3 students study a variety of non-fiction and fiction texts including newspapers and magazine articles, reviews, biographies, speeches, travel writing, blogs, web pages and poetry, prose and drama from literary tradition, different cultures and contemporary writers. They have an opportunity to express themselves within a broad spectrum of written genre. The students are formally assessed termly and their work is evidenced in an individual profile, to ensure each student is making appropriate progress.

What can I use this page for?

This webpage has been designed to make English homework more accessible for pupils and parents alike.  Our aim is to deliver homework in the most up-to-date way possible including the use of the World Wide Web.  At Astor College our English Department embraces multi-media forms of learning and this website allows us to share our expectations with pupils and parents.

This website serves to offer pupils the opportunity to revise and master the skills that they will need for their GCSE English Language and Literature exams.  It includes past papers from the WJEC exam board, tips on how to respond to questions and useful links for further revision.
